TOPS (The Option Program at Seward) is an alternative K-8 public school dedicated to giving our students a complete education while emphasizing themes of social justice and citizenship.  Our central location and status as an Option school, open to students from all over the city, make for a diverse student population which both complements and demands teaching empathy, acceptance, and responsibility to others.

    We are excited to announce the spring roster for TOPS Elementary Afterschool classes!

  • It’s Auction Season at TOPS
    Create a basket, donate services or goods, ask your family and friends to donate, ask for certificates from your stylist or favorite restaurant, rent your vacation place for a week, host a buy-in party (we call them TOPICS for Grown-Ups).  Enter your procured items online here: http://topsk8.ejoinme.org/donate Paper procurement forms and items can be turned into the office http://topsk8.ejoinme.org/tickets .TOPICS for Grown Ups and TOPICS for Kids are buy-in parties only available during the spring auction.   • TOPS Talent Show
    All TOPS students, grades K-8 are eligible to perform. Entries must be received by Wednesday, April 22nd to secure a spot in the show.  Sign-ups forms are available in the Office.

  • Naramore is Here
    See TOPS student artwork on display at the Seattle Art Museum for the Naramore Student Art Exhibit March 13 – May 17.Reception: All teachers, students and their families are invited to the Naramore Opening Celebration on May 8 from 6-10pm at the Seattle Art Museum.   • TOPS Yearbooks on Sale Now
    Place your order before April 1st for the lowest possible price. Order online at http://jostensyearbooks.com/?REF=A01064877 or write a check to “TOPS” for $30.00 and bring it Ms. Herrmann in B203 or leave it in her office mailbox before April 1. If you drop off a check, make sure there’s a note attached to the check stating who the order is for (your child’s name) and their grade level/teacher’s name, so we can get it to the right place when they arrive.
  • Middle School Spring 2015 Afterschool Program
    Here are the spring offerings for the Middle School Afterschool Program, funded by Friends of TOPS:

    • Video Projection class with Don Zemke, every Tuesday, 3:15-4:30 pm – through June.
    • Yearbook Club with Kristy Herrmann (3rd grade teacher) on the FIRST and THIRD Tuesdays of the month. This club is underway.  If your student/s would like to join in, contact Kristy at
    • Ceramics Class with Suzanne Wakefield, every Tuesday for 8 weeks starting Tuesday, March 17, 3:15-4:30 pm.
    • Study Hall on Tuesdays (with Nina Binder) and Thursdays (with Mark Ellis).
    • Circus Arts starting Monday March 16th from 3:15-4:15pm through end of May. In the gym. Kids learn to walk a slack line, unicycle, juggle and jump rope double Dutch style.
    • School Year Sailing with TOPS on Fridays May 8, 15, 22, 29 and June 5 from 3:30-6:30pm at The Center for Wooden Boats. Limit 16 students ages 8 to 15, Cost: $200  Register on the CWB website. There is a pay what you can option on the left hand side of the screen.
    • If your student is interested in doing sports – volleyball, boys soccer, track or ultimate – get in touch with Don Zemke or Eric Herndon

  • University of Washington Summer Youth Program
    The UW Summer Youth Program offers a variety of camps and classes for middle school students. Classes range from STEM-focused offerings to arts and humanities. A partial list of classes includes: Electronics Technology: The Life of a Cell Phone; Book-Making Intensive; Computing with ScratchElectronic Music Gizmos; Giant Puppet-Making; Fiber-Arts Sculpture, and more.  For complete details visit us at: www.summeryouth.washington.edu.
  • Art4Kids 2015 Summer Art Camp
    Fused Glass, Clay (sculpture and wheelwork), Drawing, Painting, Block Printing, Silkscreen and Mixed Media!  This summer let your creativity soar with Luzita Roll* at Tops K-8 Art4Kids Summar Art Camp.Half day or full day options, Monday – Friday, are available during the weeks of 6/22, 6/29, and 7/6.  Before and after care are available at Tops K-8. Also, five additional weeks of art camp are offered for 10-16 year olds at the Art4Kids Latona Studio in the Greenlake neighborhood, just off the I-5, 50th St Exit.   • Game Design Camp – Spring & Summer Break
    Michael Adams will be hosting five weeks of camps at TOPS beginning with a Spring Break Camp.Camp Dates: April 13-17 – Seattle Public Schools Spring Break, June 22-26, June 29 – July 3, July 6-11, July 27-31Cost: $300/week, $250 per if you sign up for more than one session, $75/day   Hours: 9am – 3pm
  • Eric’s Spring Break Camp Reminder
    Basketball & Gaming Camp for K-8th grade is April 13–17. Return your registration forms to Eric or drop off in the main office.
    $125.00 per session or $250.00 for both sessions.
